About the Grape:

Merlot is the most widely planted grape in the world, and the back-bone of many of the worlds finest wines. It is grown in over 125 countries.

About this Wine:

On the nose: Dark fruit and Vanilla. On the Palate: Cola and sweet cherry. Its versatile flavor profile makes it able to pair with anything.

Did You Know:

Because Virgin-ia doesn’t get the intense heat as in other wine regions, our Merlot is often lighter in style.

About the Blend:

Comprised of Merlot, Cab Franc, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon.  All grown in Virginia.   Aged in all Virginia Oak barrels.

About this Wine:

Cherry, plum and pepper on the nose, with black plum and a touch of spice on the palate.

Did You Know:

George Washington’s sister Mildred got married and eventually died at Effingham.

2020 Tannat

About the Grape:

First planted in Virginia in the 90’s, Tannat is a rich, deep grape that provides elegant wines
perfect for the dinner table. 

About this Wine:

Nose with coffee, dry chocolate and plum.  The flavors are spicy and smokey with a blueberry on the finish.  High tannins throughout. 

Did You Know:

Tannat has one of highest level of anti-oxidants of all red wines.

About the Blend:

33% Merlot, 25% Petit Verdot, 25% Cabernet Sauvingon, 19% Tannat, 4% Cab Franc.   The Tannat makes it a Virginia Blend, not a Bordeaux Blend.

About this Wine:

Our Premium wine. Black Cherry and Mocha flavors are present. A great wine to pair with grilled beef or seasoned pork.

The Alexander family founded Effingham Manor in 1740.

About the Blend:

The later ripening Red wine grapes matured well in 2020.  In turn, we were able to creat the second vintage of our family of wineries premier wine.  Almost half Cab Sauv, with Merlot and Tannat to round it out, 

About this Wine:

The nose is leather and smoked meats.   The palate is luscious.  The balance is almost perfect.  A soft beginning, with a Sweet chocolate-covered cherry mid-palate.  The finish is soft and vanilla. 

Did You Know:

The origin of the word ‘Reserve’ in wine, comes from winemakers reserving some of the wines, allowing them to age longer, gaining flavor and complexity.

NV Snort

About the Grape:

Port must be from Porto in Portugal. Our fortified dessert wine is Snort . We use Chambourcin grapes, age for 3 years and add cocoa nibs to add a complex flavor.

About this Wine:

Almost 20% ABV, Snort packs a punch. Meant for after dinner, the cocoa and dark fruit flavors make it a great wine to pour over angel food cake or ice cream.

Did You Know:

2019 is one of the finest Virginia Vintages in recent memory. Proper amounts of
rainfall and hot summer, gave us
special wines.

NV Sparkling Wine

THE BEST way to celebrate, enjoy brunch or feel special.

About the Grape:

Our sparkling wine is made with the three traditional Champagne grapes: Chardonnay, Petit Verdot and Petit Meunier, all grown in California and bottled by our friends at Rack and Riddle.

About this Wine:

Sparkling wine (only Champagne comes from Champagne, France) is a different discipline. We leave it to those who do it best. Ours is blush, slightly sweet and has a toasted brioche flavor.

Did You Know:

People of-ten ask about the pigs at Eff-ingham. A pig is our Unofficial mascot. Why?  EffingHAM 

2020 Viognier 

BEST WHITE WINE at the Harvest International

About the Blend:

Viognier is most  notably found in the Condrieu region of the Rhone Valley.  It has become a sym-bol of Virginia’s quality wine growing and wine making. 

About this Wine:

Viognier is one of the 3 varietals that we make at all three of our wineries. The biggest challenge for the winemakers is to come up with a different style for each. Effingham’s features flavors of Banana and peach. 

Did You Know:

Viognier was almost extinct in the 1960s, with only 8 acres in the Rhone Valley and 40 acres worldwide. Now, it is the largest planted Rhone varietal in the world.

2019 Chardonnay

Gold at the American Wine Society Competition

About the Grape:

Planted in all 50 states, and 80 countries. Our Chardonnay comes from the oldest vineyard in Virginia, Meriwether.

About this Wine:

This medium-bodied wine is aged in French oak barrels. It offers grilled pineapple, lemon, and apple on the nose. Flavors of tropical fruit and lemon meringue follow on the palate ending with a soft oak finish.

Did You Know:

The Koi Pond at Effingham is a
converted swimming pool. In fact, it is one of the oldest cement swimming pools in all of Virginia.

2022 Rose

About the Blend:

Estate grown Chambourcin is used as the base for our Rosé. At .75% residual sugar, it’s perfectly balanced with bright acidity on the finish. 

About this Wine:

Off dry Rosé with notes of strawberry, cherry and watermelon flavors on both the nose and palate

Did You Know:

The grounds and buildings of Effingham were added to the National Historic Registry in 1989.

About this Wine:

Melon and tangerine on the nose, the sweet palate adds some lemon and apricot with refreshing acidity.

Effingham has one of two living trees on the east coast brought back from Lewis and Clark’s expedition.
